Fleet River Bakery poetry entry - it didn’t win :(
When the snow came tumbling down
In the market and the town,
All the children rushed to see
A man in red down on one knee
And as they watched he took in deep
A breath of joy, a breath of sleep
And with all his might began to blow
And stir up bright the whirling snow
The kids they felt the magic flow,
The power of that breath did grow,
And into Kingsway, down the Strand
All the people felt so grand
The flowing glow criss-crossed the Smoke
From Morden up to Gospel Oak
And out in Leyton and in Ealing
The sad, the lonely thrilled with feeling
And burst outside into the night
A snowball fight! A snowball fight!
And got to know their nearest neighbour
And even considered voting Labour.
The man in red strode through the streets,
Throwing aloft such cakes and treats
“I am Christmas! I am the giver!
And I got it all down at Fleet River.”
